Santanoni Peak was the fourteenth tallest mountain in New York.Ā Santanoni Peak can be climbed by itself but rarely is. Advanced hikers will typically climb Panther Peak and/or Couchsachraga Peak along with Santanoni. Hikers may wish to consider using the Times Square herd-path and the Santanoni Express Route if they are plan to traverse all three Santanoni Peaks in a day. This will save time and distance; however, hikers will need to leave Santanoni for last or summit it first. Santanoni offers the best views of the range. Be aware, the Santanoni Express Route is steep and eroded despite the benefit of allowing hikers to ascend up to the ridge more quickly.

Primary Trailhead:Ā To reach the southern trailhead from Interstate 87 (I-87), get off Exit 29 (North Hudson) and head West on Country Route 84 (Blue Ridge Road) toward Newcomb. Continue for roughly 18-miles to the Tahawus Road (Country Route 25) on the right. Follow this road 6.3 miles to a left marked by a sign for Mt. Marcy and the High Peaks. At 2.0 miles from this junction there is a parking lot on the left for Santanoni.

History:Ā Santanoni Peak is believed to be an Abenaki derivative of “Saint Anthony”; the first French fur traders and missionaries having named the area for Saint Anthony of Padua.
