Grace Peak, formerly known as East Dix, is the sixth tallest mountain in New York. Grace Peak is often climbed with Macomb and South Dix for a longer, demanding day.
Distance: 5 miles to the summit, thus 10 miles round trip when hiking only East Dix
Ascent: 2,800 feet
Elevation: 4,012 feet
Primary Trailhead: The shortest and most popular route leaves from the Round Pond/Dix Mountain Trailhead. To locate the trailhead from Lake Placid, follow Route 73 through Keene and Keene Valley. Continue on Route 73 for roughly 7 miles outside of the Town of Keene Valley look for a stone bridge over the Bouquet River, park here.
Trail Route: The trail starts on the south side of the river. After 0.5 miles, cross the river, although a trail continues on the south side of the river. The trail pulls away from the river, crosses a small brook, and then comes to the top of a high bank above a popular swimming area on the river. Continuing on, bear left and down at an intersection to cross first the river and then a large brook. At about 2.5 miles, you come to the South Fork of the Boquet River and follow it to a large brook coming in from the right. Cross this brook and continue up the South Fork on a path that eventually crosses to the south side and then up the slide to the east summit. It is about 100 yds through the woods to the true summit.
History: Grace Peak was formerly called East Dix, but in 2014 it was officially renamed Grace Peak in honor of Grace Hudowalski (1906–2004), who in 1937 became the ninth person and first woman to climb all 46 of the Adirondack High Peaks.
Location: Grace Peak is located on the boundary of the Town of North Hudson, in Essex County, in the Northern region of New York State.
