Giant Mountain

Giant Mountain is the twelfth tallest mountain in New York. Giant offers outstanding views of much of the Eastern High Peaks, including the Great Range.

Distance‎: 3 miles to summit, thus 6 miles round trip
Ascent‎: ‎ 3,050 feet
Elevation‎: ‎4,627 feet

Primary Trailhead: To reach the trailhead from Lake Placid follow Route 73 toward Keene. Drive through Keene and Keene Valley past Saint Huberts. Look for Chapel Pond on your right, the trailhead is just past the pond on the left.

Trail Route: This route is the direct route to the summit. Once you leave the car you start climbing and you don’t stop for 3-miles until you hit the summit.

History: Giant Mountain is also known as “Giant of the Valley,” due to its stature looking over Keene Valley and St. Huberts to the west. The prominent rock slides on the mountain’s steep western face and its location away from most other large peaks make it quite an imposing figure, leading to its name.

Location: Giant Mountain is located in the Town of Keene, in Essex County, in the Northern region of New York State.
